AsShaikh AbdusSamad alKathib rahimahullah, was one of the scholars of madinah who passed away in the year of 1431. He was born in india in the state of Kerala in the respected family of nobility and modesty. His father shaikh Muhammad alKathib was a well known scholar who was a dedicated caller to thawheed in the land of kerala. Shaikh muhammad alKathib sent his son, Shaikh AbdusSamad to the land of Hijaz to seek knowledge there from the scholars of that blessed land when the latter was just 16 years old. He joined the institute at Riyadh and learned there. One of his classmates in Riyadh was asShaikh alAllamah muhammad bin Salih alUthaimeen Rahimahullah.
Later he went to the land of Samitha and joined the institute there as teacher and one of his colleagues there was asShaikh alAllamah, the mufthi of Southern saudi then, Ahmad bin yahya anNajmee Rahimahullah.
After working there as a teacher for years, shaikh rahimahullah changed his residence to the the Madinah which was a dream place for him always and joined as a teacher there too. Along with teaching in the college, he used to teach in the masjid nearby his home and many of the well known salafi mashayikh learned the science of alFaraaidh – inheritance- from him. From among them are the noble shaikh salih asSuhaimee, asShaikh abdurRazaq albadr, asShaikh falah ismaeel, along with many others inside and outside the kingdom.
Whenever the mashayikh like shaikh Ahmad najmee and Shaikh alAlbanee visited the city of alMadeenah, they used to visit this noble shaikh in his house. He was very close to shaikh alAllamah alMUhajir Hammad alAnsaree rahimahullah to an extent that the latter was kept a cot in his home for the shaikh rahimahullah!
Shaikh has authored a great book in the fiele of inheritence “kitab alfaraaid” which contains hundreds of pages and is of great value. The book is being taught in many institutes worldwide, including the islamic university at Madeenah.
This book is a good proof for shaikh’s deep knowledge and sound language , Rahimahullah.
Shaikh was known for his interest in da’wah. He used to go to remote deserts and give da’wah to the people there who are often far away from the knowledge and people of knowledge. Whenever he see an old man he used to approach him and teach him the correct aqeeda saying that these people dont have many days left in their life!
The strange thing that even prompted me to write this post is that this shaikh and his knowledge are really unknown to many!Even his duroos are hardly seen distributed, wallahul mustha aan!
He was strong in his Aqeedah as it is clear to me listening to a few of his tapes that i found after long search,
i quote a few statements of the shaikh for you to know how strong he was in aqeedah along with his vast knowledge.
“People are busy memorizing the books like zadul mustaqni’, which contains very little verses from quran or hadeeths, whenever i see such books that people are busy with, i remember the speech of my rabb “ومنهم أميون لا يعلمون الكتاب إلا أماني ” which means that there are people (among the jews and nasaaraa) those who dont know the book except as baseless hopes!”*He also stated “If somebody claims that i am a mawdoodee, zaidee, …. then he is a mushrik”
explaining the aayah “ولا تكونوا من المشركين “*
Both these statements can be heard in the first tape of his sharh on the mathn of arRahabiyyah.
May Allah have mercy on him and bless ahlussunnah in kerala with someone who takes the shaikh’s place in teaching the people the book and sunnah
